Sharing Love for Santorini
Oias Local Cavehouses is our ‘love project’ coming to life. We are locals who live and work on the island all year round. Our passion for this unique and historical island of Santorini, ignited the idea of sharing our everyday experiences with travellers who want to explore the real life of Santorini beyond the obvious.
We transformed two typical cave houses into elegant modern spaces that can accommodate you and offer you the possibility to Live Like a Local.
We will all share a beautiful yard in which we will be able to spend time together, share a glass of local wine and hopefully enjoy an authentic Santorinian meal using local products.
Our accommodation establishment takes the name after the typical and unique local architecture of the island’s caldera that demonstrates a semi-subterranean housing grid due to weather and terrain conditions. Historically, locals, with frugal means, were building on the steep volcanic caldera, by digging the steep slopes. Through the years, this construction pattern resulted in a white- plastered, Tetris-like settlement of interconnected houses that were protected from strong winds, and cool enough from the sizzling Greek sun. Property boundaries were never clear; one’s roof was another’s terrace and so on, which resulted in strong community ties. This is the essence of Oias Local Cavehouses, this is our vision…to bring back and serve the authentic Caldera experience in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
